Blu-ray Disc Association Adopts DRM System

The Blu-ray Disc Association this morning announced that it has adopted technology for the management and control of its content. The group said that it is adopting a comprehensive content management system to protect against illegal copying and piracy of BDA content. The group has finalized its content management system on AACS, the Advanced Access Content System. In addition, the group said that it has adopted ROM Mark technology, which embeds a unique and undetectable identifier in pre-recorded BD-ROM media such as movies, music and games. That mark prevents duplication of media through mastering equipment. The ROM Mark only allows mastering of Blu-Ray content by licensed BD-ROM manufacturers. The BDA also said that it would include programmability in its protection scheme with something called BD+, a way that allows content providers to create a response to compromised security systems through dynamic updates.
