Eucalyptus Systems Raises $30M

Santa Barbara-based Eucalyptus Systems, the cloud computing software developer headed by Marten Mickos, has raised $30M in a Series C round of funding, the firm announced this morning. According to Eucalyptus, the round was led by Institutional Venture Partners (IVP), and also included existing investors Benchmark Capital, BV Capital, and New Enterprise Associates. IVP's Steve Harrick joins the company's board. Eucalpytus said it has now raised a total of $55.5M in capital. The firm will use the new funds for product innovation, sales, and customer support. Eucalpytus develops cloud deployment software, which is used to create either private cloud or hybrid cloud deployments.

The firm said its software is now being used by such companies as Aerospace Corporation, InterContinental Hotels Group, Plinga, PUMA, USDA, and USASpending.gov, among thousands of others. In a bit of good news for the local job market, Eucalyptus also said it is in the midst of a hiring push, with more than 30 open positions; the company said already has tripled its employees in the last year and a half.
