Rayton Solar Finds $1M

Santa Monica-based Rayton Solar, a startup developing solar industry manufacturing technology, announced this morning that it has raised $1M in seed funding, and is looking for another $1.2M. The startup--which is utilizing laser technology from UCLA--said it has created a process which uses 1/50 to 1/100 less silicon to manufacture solar panels, which uses laser beams to deposit silicon on those panels, dramatically reducing the cost of those panels to manufacture. Rayton Solar is led by Andrew Yakub, and says its advisors include Dr. James Rosenzweig (Department Chair, UCLA Department of Physics and Astronomy) and Dr. Mark Goorsky (UCLA Professor of Material Science), along with Originate's Jeffrey Scheinrock.
