Topspin Media's Gotcher Gets Emmy

Peter Gotcher, the Chairman and co-founder of Santa Monica-based music startup Topspin Media, has scored an Emmy award, for his work in co-founding firm Digidesign. The Philo T. Farnsworth Corporate Achievement Award was given over the weekend to the founders of Digidesign, by the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. The award is presented to honor firms that the Academy says "whose contributions have significantly affected the state of television technology and engineering over a long period of time." Gotcher co-founded Digidesign with Evan Brooks in 1984, and the firm was later acquired by Avid. Avid's Pro Tools -- based on Digidesign's products -- are an industry standard used for sound editing in the entertainment industry. Topspin, is run by Ian Rogers, the former GM of Yahoo Music, and is backed by Redpoint Ventures and The Foundry Group. The firm's web applications are used by music artists to market their work and connect with fans.
