TowerJazz Ties With DARPA Program

Newport Beach-based TowerJazz, the semiconductor foundry, said today that its subsidiary Jazz Semiconductor has inked a cost-sharing collaboration with DARPA. According to the firm, it is working with DARPA on advancing a roadmap for high frequency SiGe HBT (heterojunction bipolar transistor) devices. The collaboration is part of a DARPA program called GRATE (Gratings of Regular Arrays and Trim Exposures), and also includes a partnership with the University of California, San Diego. TowerJazz said the program is focused on creating an alternative to more costly lithography techniques by using grating masks with conventional photolithography.
