UCLA Health: Health Data From More Than 4.5 Million Patients Hacked

In the latest, high profile cyber hacking incident, Los Angeles-based UCLA Health, the healthcare and hospital system connect with UCLA, reported on Friday morning that it is the victim of a criminal cyber attack, which has exposed the records of as many as 4.5 million patients. UCLA said that "criminal hackers" have gained access to parts of the computer network that contain personal and medical information for the healthcare system. UCLA reported that it is working with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and hired private, computer forensics experts to further secure information on its servers. UCLA said it has been investigating suspicious network activity since October of 2014, although it did not believe attackers had access to information until May. UCLA Health said it did not have any evidence that any data had been released from its system, but would offer up 12 months of credit monitoring to individuals.
