Verizon Sets 4G Launch For Sunday

Verizon Wireless is getting set to launch its 4G LTE service in Los Angeles, Orange County, and San Diego this weekend, saying this week it will allow consumers to signup for its 4G service on Sunday, December 4th. The launch--which comes only days after Sprint and Clearwire launched their own, 4G wireless in the area--will allow consumers to access Verizon's 4G network using two USB modems.

Verizon did not say when 4G access will be available to smartphone users, however, the firm said it will offer broadband data plans for laptop users starting at $50 for monthly access for 5GB/month, and $80 for 10GB a month. The new 4G service will be supported through the LG VL600 and Pantech UML290, 4G LTE. The expanded 4G service from Verizon comes only days after Clearwire and partner Sprint announced 4G available in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas, through their own, wireless modems. Sprint and Clearwire are using the WiMAX wireless protocol for their own service, with plans starting at $35 a month for home service, and mobile service starting at $45.
