AcuFocus Sees $65M

Irvine-based AcuFocus, a maker of corneal inlays for treating presbyopia, announced this morning that it has raised $65M in a funding round. The ronud was led by Cowen Healthcare Royalty Partners, and also included SV Life Sciences, Versant Ventures, Carlyle Group, Accuitive Medical Ventures, Bausch & Lomb, and Medtronic. AcuFocus said the funding will go towards scaling its business and expanding into new markets. AcuFocus currently is available in Europe, Asia-Pacific, Middle East and South America, and is in investigational device status in the United Sates. The AcuFocus corneal inlays are aimed at individuals over the age of 45 suffering from near vision loss. More information »
