Amazon Sets Bold Plan For Second Headquarters: Is SoCal A Possibility?
E-commerce giant Amazon.com announced this morning a bold plan to establish a second, headquarters city, which it says would be home to "Amazon HQ2"--where the company could hire as many as 50,000 employees, and where it would invest over $5 billion in construction. According to Amazon.com, it has opened up a request for proposals for cities for how they might become the next Amazon headquarters, which Amazon said would be a "full equal" to its Seattle headquarters, according to Amazon's Jeff Bezos. It's unclear where different cities in Southern California might rank on a possible location, however, Amazon.com already has a significant operation in Los Angeles due to its foray into the content business, particularly in producing content for Amazon Prime. Amazon said its is looking for metropolitan areas with more than one million people; a stable and business-friendly environment; urban or suburban locations with potential to attract and retain strong technical talent; and communities that can "think big and creatively" when considering locations and real estate options.
