Avery Dennison Unveils RFID Tag

Pasadena-based Avery Dennison is continuing its foray into the transportation and homeland security market with its announcement today of a tamper-evident Radio Frequency ID (RFID) tag. The company is tapping the technology of RF Code Inc. to demonstrate the product, which is expected to be available in early 2005. The RFID tag contains electronic seal technology for tamper monitoring, tracking, and locating of containers and other physical assets. RFID tags are starting to be used for tracking both shipping containers at busy ocean ports. Avery Dennison is in a pilot program with the U.S. Transportaiton Safety Administration (TSA) using RFID-solutions for monitoring container shipments on ocean vessels.
