Fullerton-based scientific equipment firm Beckman Coulter announced today that it has acquired the lab-based diagnostics business of Olympus, in a deal worth approximately 76 billion Japanese yen in cash, or approximately $780M. Beckman, which makes equipment used in the biomedical testing market, said that the buy would boost its position in the chemistry and automation areas. The acquisition was originally announced in February.
