BMW Targets Instagrammers With LA Auto Show Contest

In an example of the rising interest of big advertisers in mobile social sharing site Instagram, auto maker BMW is dangling the chance to be the official BMW Instagram photographer to Instagram users who snap and post photos of local BMWs. The company told users this week on Instagram that they can submit pictures of BMWs--making sure they are geotagged and hashtagged as #BMWUltragramer--to get a chance to get access during the LA Auto Show's Press Day. Instagram--which is now owned by Facebook--lets users share photos with their friends and others using their mobile phone. BMW said the contest is open to only residents of Los Angeles and Orange County, and that the deadline for entries is Sunday, November 18th. Instagram has been a popular theme for SoCal startups in the last years, with such companies as Insteegram letting users sell T-shirts from their photos; MomentFeed letting retailers track activity on the service and other social media; Instaprints offering up canvas and metal prints from Instagram photos, and Instacanvas letting users sell their photos to others or buy photos posted on Instagram.
