Boingo Offers Free WiFi In NYC For February

Boingo Wireless, the wireless hotspot operator which operates an international network of Wi-Fi hotspots, said today that it will offer up free access at locations in New York City in February, as part of a deal with Norwegian Cruise Line. Boingo said that it will offer up free access at selected New York subway stations, John F. Kennedy (JFK), LaGuardia and Newark Liberty International Airport, as part of a promotion for the arrival of a new Norwegian Cruise Line ship, the Norwegian Breakaway. Financial details of the sponsorship deal were not announced.

The Norwegian Breakaway is a 4,000 passenger ship which will be home ported in New York City. Boingo Wireless, which is based in Los Angeles, operates an extensive network of Wi-Fi hotspots, including both hotspots operated by the company as well as a network of partners. Its services are all tied together through a unified system which allows users to pay for Wi-Fi on monthly or per-use plans, through a single billing system. The Norwegian Cruise Line deal comes through Boingo's Cloud Nine platform, which allows companies to sponsor Wi-Fi locations and present location-based ads. Boingo acquired Cloud Nine in August of last year.
