Hollywood-based BUZZMEDIA, the venture-backed publisher of music content, information, and community sites, is getting some new competition this week from Berkeley-based MOG. According to MOG, it has launched a new "editorial hub" called the MOG Music network which will showcase content from a network of 1,300 music blog. MOG said it will offer premium brands a "unique targeting platform" for engaging consumers based on musical interests, reaching around 20 million visitors each month. The move by MOG puts the firm head to head against local firm BUZZMEDIA, which runs its own extensive network of music-based blog and information sites. BUZZMEDIA has quietly been amassing a large network of music blog sites, including running Buzznet, Celebuzz, Absolute Punk, GoFugYourself, JustJared, Stereogum, TheSuperficial, WWTDD, SocialiteLife, Idolator, and a number of celebrity web sites. BUZZMEDIA has a reach of around 50 million monthly visitors, according to the firm's web site.
