Santa Monica-based Activision Publishing said this morning that its new title, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, has just topped $1 billion in sales. Activision Publishing, which is a subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, said it took only 16 days for the company to hit the milestone. Activision compared its own sales rate to Hollywood, saying that its sales now rival that of Hollywood's biggest blockbusters. The firm pointed out that its sales exceeded those of record setting film Avatar, which reached $1 billion in ticket sales 17 days after release. Activision also reported that its online subscription networking service, Call of Duty Elite, has now hit over one million premium subscribers, with six million registered players.
