Celerus Diagnostics Ramps Automation Efforts

Carpinteria-based Celerus Diagnostics, a developer of scientific equipment for the pathology lab market, said today that it plans to introduce a totally automated immunohistochemistry (IHC) staining system to the market next year. The firm claims that the new system will provide "total automation" of its existing systems, which are used by hospitals and reference labs to diagnose cancer. The firm said its lab system currently provides results in as little as 15 minutes, compared to times of 2 1/2 to 4 hours for most diagnostic systems. Venture-backed Celerus raised $5M in a Series C funding round for the firm in February.
