San Diego-based Covario, the search engine optimization and search engine marketing software firm headed by Russ Mann, revealed this week that it has secured its first patent from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. The firm said the patent covers technology used in its SEO Audit Score System. The patent number is 7,877,392. According to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, inventors on the patent include Ray Grieselhuber, Brian Bartell, Dema Zlotin, and Russ Mann. The firm filed the patent in March of 2007, and it was granted earlier this week on January 25th. Covario was represented by Cooley LLP in the patent filing. Covario said the patent covers its use of a weighted algorithmic formula that measures a brand or product's likelihood of ranking high on search engine pages. Covario is venture backed by Dubilier & Company, FTV Capital, and Voyager Capital.
