Cylance, Headed by Foundstone Vet, Secures $15M

Cylance, a new security startup based in Irvine, said this morning that it has raised $15M in a funding round. The round came from Khosla Ventures and Fairhaven Capital. Cylance is headed by Stuart McClure, a former McAfee executive, and boasts a board that includes Patrick Heim (Chief Trust Officer at Salesforce.com), Admiral William J. Fallon, U.S. Navy (Retired), and Alex Doll (co-founder of PGP).

According to Cylance, the firm is focused on "solving large and complex security McClure was cofounder of Orange County's Foundstone, which was acquired by McAfee in 2004; he was most recently Global CTO and General Manager of the Security Management Business Unit for McAfee/Intel, where the company said he was responsible for a $3 billion consumer and corporate security products business. He also served at Kaiser Permanente.

Foundstone was a provider of intrusion prevention software and related services; fellow co-founder George Kurtz has his own, security startup, Crowdstrike, which raised $26M in February of last year.
