Los Angeles-based EdgeCast, which operates a content delivery network (CDN) focused on rich media content, is announcing today that the firm is opening two new points of presence in Singapore and Paris. According to the firm, the two POPs are a major upgrade to its global network. The firm said it now has direct connections with more than 800 user networks around the world. EdgeCast said the Singapore POP completed testing this month and is online, with Paris expected to go live sometime in the first half of the year. The firm said the new points of presence are being used by such firms as entertainment companies serving HD videos, where the presence of local points of presence dramatically reduces delays in streaming content to users in local markets.
