Edmunds.com Opens Texting Tool For Free To Car Dealers

Los Angeles-based Edmunds.com announced Thursday that it will be offering up a free, texting tool available to car dealers, to help those dealers communicate with customers via text messaging. According to Edmunds.com, it will make its CarCode texting tool available to any dealer--including those not currently partners with the company--to respond to inquires from customers directly using text messaging. The new text messaging service comes directly from Edmunds.com's acquisition of CarCodeSMS, a startup which had developed the texting tool as part of one of the company's "hackathons" last year. Edmunds.com says it has found that at least one third of car shoppers now prefer communications via text message--rather than phone or email.
