European EV Battery Startup Founder Plans Effort In Imperial Valley

A founder of two, European electric vehicle battery startups, Lars Carlstrom, has announced a plan for a third, Lithium battery startup, this time located in the Imperial Valley. According to Carlstrom, who previously founded two EV battery companies--Britishvolt and Italvolt--he is launching a new startup called Statevolt, which plans to develop a 54GWh "gigafactory" to build Lithium batteries for the North American market. Carlstrom and lithium mining startup Controlled Thermal Resources (CTR) said they have signed a Letter of Intent (LOI) to purchase Lithium and energy from CTR for a new, yet-to-be-sited battery factory. The two said, once built, the battery plant will be able to build batteries for around 650,000 electric vehicles a year. Carlstrom's venture in Italy is still in the early stages.
