Facebook, Google Connect LA, Hong Kong Via Undersea Ultra-High Speed Cable

Facebook, Google, and telecom and undersea infrastructure developer TE SubCom and PLDC (Pacific Light Data Communication Co. Ltd.) said on Wednesday that they are teaming up to build a 12,800 km, transpacific submarine cable system. According to the companies, the low latency route will connect Hong Kong and Los Angeles, with ultra-high capacity transmissions speeds, the very first direct between LA and Hong Kong. The companies did not say how much they will invest in the new ultra high-speed link, which is expected to provider 120 terabits/second capacity between the US and Asia. Google said that the new link will be used to bring lower latency, more security, and greater bandwidth to Google users in the APAC region.
