Mobile consumers drove what Los Angeles-based movie ticketing and information site Fandango says is its best summer in its history today, as mobile purchases drove a 26 percent year-to-year increase in ticket sales on the service. According to Fandango, mobile ticket sales increased 116 percent over the past year, more than doubling, and now are more than 30 percent of all of its ticket sales. Fandango has been reporting that its mobile apps have been driving a big surge in its sales in the last year or so, and it looks like the trend is building. The company reports that it saw more than 26 million downloads of its various mobile apps. Fandango's web sites and apps let moviegoers purchase tickets in advance to films, and print those at home or use their mobile app as a ticket. The firm did not break down which platforms have seen the biggest increase, but the company supports iPhone and iPad, Android, BlackBerry, Windows Phone 7 with its apps.
