Boingo Expands In Japan

Boingo Wireless, the Wi-Fi network operator based in Los Angeles, has expanded its presence in Japan, saying it has inked a deal with NTT Broadband Platform, Inc. to manage and operate the Wi-Fi services at five major airports in the country. Boingo said it will manage Wi-Fi services at Haneda Airport (Tokyo International Airport) (HND), Narita International Airport, Tokyo (NRT), New Chitose Airport, Sapporo (CTS), Fukuoka Airport (FUK), and Chubu Airport, Nagoya (NGO).

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Boingo said the five airports collectively service more than 130 million passengers on an annual basis. The Japanese airport deal is the latest in a series of deals which call for Boingo to manage and operate the Wi-Fi networks at airports--deals which also give Boingo subscribers, and its partners, white label access to those airports. In this case, Boingo said that all of its roaming and platform service providers, including Korea Telecom, LGU +, Skype, Orange France, and Verizon will also be provided with self-branded Wi-Fi at the locations.
