Gemstar Grants Patent License To Pioneer

Los Angeles-based Gemstar-TV Guide said this morning that it has granted a patent license to Pioneer Corp for interactive programming guides in the European market. Pioneer will now have ability to use Gemstar-TV Guide IP in the European market. Gemstar holds a number of patents in the interactive programming guide/set top box market, and aggressively licenses those patents to various set top box and television manufacturers. The company reports that the deal extends an existing agreement between Gemstar and Pioneer for incorporating Gemstar interactive programming guide technology for certain products.
