Helicomm Acquires Wireless Provider




Carlsbad-based Helicomm said this morning that it has acquired Taiwan-based WirelessPlug, a maker of wireless data acquisition products for machine-to-machine markets in Asia. Wireless Plug uses GPRS, GSM, and CDMA technologies to connect industrial meters, oil and gas field monitoring, traffic management, and more. Helicomm is developing Zigbee-based wireless modules targeted at the industrial market. Helicomm said that the combination of the companies will allow it to introduce ZigBee-based data acquisition products. The ZigBee wireless standard is an emerging standard targeted at low cost industrial networks.
