HERO Expands Clean Energy Financing Program In 40 More Cities

San Diego-based HERO, the operator of a home financing program specifically tied to clean energy improvements, and which ties into an owner's property tax bill to pay for upgrades, has expanded in 40 more California cities, the company said on Wednesday. HERO said it is now available in mador, Avenal, Bishop, Campbell, Chico, Colma, Corcoran, Corning, Cotati, Dinuba, Dunsmuir, Exeter, Farmersville, Ferndale, Fortuna, Gonzales, Grover Beach, Ione, Isleton, Jackson, Lathrop, Lindsay, Live Oak, Mendota, Moorpark, Moraga, Morro Bay, Mount Shasta, Orange Cove, Orland, Oroville, Paso Robles, Piedmont, Plymouth, San City, San Joaquin, San Juan Bautista, Ukiah, Wheatland, and the unincorporated areas of Mariposa County. HERO said that so far, more than $1.7 billion in projects have been financed through the program, reaching 73,400 households in California. The HERO program is unique in that it targets upgrades of things such as windows, roofs, water headers, and Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning (HVAC), and spreads payments for those systems across the estimated useful life of those items--i.e. 20 years--all paid through an owner's property tax bill.
