LA Launches New Business Information Portal

The City of Los Angeles is reaching out new and small businesses, aimed at providing information to those businesses on everything from negotiating leases to securing business loans--plus dealing with city paperwork on registering a new business. The new L.A. Business Portal includes a startup assistance tool, covering business registration, taxes, seller's permits, and the like; a resource library, with links to helpful city departments; plus a basic business "preparedness" guide about basic business management skills. The new portal was funded by a $250,000 grants from the Small Business Administration and driven by Mayor Eric Garcetti's Innovation Team project. Los Angeles said it has open sourced the software behind the portal, for use by other cities across the country who want to reach out to small business owners. The new site was designed by Tomorrow Partners. The city said the entire project will be made open source on Github.
