LA Times Vets Launch Ebyline, Gain Angel Funding

Los Angeles-based Ebyline said today that it has launched a new online marketplace targeted at news publishers and professional journalists, which helps publishers manage freelance writers. The firm said it is backed by un-named Los Angeles angel investors, and was founded by former Los Angeles Times journalists. Amount of the funding was not announced. The company said that its platform is "for professional journalists only", and that it requires that freelancers have a track record in order to gain access to the site. The firm was founded by Bill Momary and Allen Narcisse. According to his LinkedIn profile, Momary was previously VP of Multimedia Advertising at the Ventura County Star, and a Regional Advertising Manager at the Los Angeles Times, as well as serving as an Account Executive at Cars.com. Narcisse was a VP at Paramount Pictures, was Director of Business Operations of Hoy, the Los Angeles Times' Spanish language daily, and also served at Arthur Andersen LLP. A regulatory filing from EByline earlier this year indicated the firm was raising around $50,000 in funding; it's unclear if the announced funding includes additional funds on top of that earlier fundraising.
