Pasadena-based Materia, a Caltech spinoff which develops chemical processing technology, has signed an agreement with the University of Calgary, in Calgary, Canada, for an exclusive license to chemical technology developed at the school. Financial terms of the license were not disclosed. According to University Technologies International, the technology transfer and commercialization arm of the University of Calgary, Materia has signed an exclusive license agreement for olefin metathesis catalysts developed by Dr. Warren Piers. Materia has provided research materials and support for Dr. Piers' research since 2004. Materia's technology is used for a broad set of chemical processes in materials, fine chemicals, and pharmaceuticals.
