Maxwell Technologies Claims Strong Growth In Ultracapacitors

San Diego-based Maxwell Technologies, a developer of energy storage and other products, is claiming this morning that it is seeing "strong demand" for the firm's ultracapacitor-based energy storage products. The firm said it has seen sales of its ultracapacitor products for wind energy applications in the first three quarter of 2010 running more than 40 percent ahead of sales in the same period last year. The firm said it estimates more than 13,000 turbine equipped with its technology are now in opeartion worldwide. Exact financial details of the growth were not announced by the company. The firm's ultracapacitors are used to regulate the output of wind turbines to the power grid, for backup power, and to supply power to blade pitch control systems on those wind turbines.
