Los Angeles Becomes YouTube's Content Hub With New Playa Vista Studio
The Los Angeles area is fast becoming the content hub for online video site YouTube, a position that takes advantage of both the LA region's long history in the entertainment business, and the rise of a slew of startups producing content specifically aimed at the YouTube audience. According to a property developer in Playa Vista, YouTube has signed an 11-year lease for a 41,000 square foot office building in the location. Totem Targets Businesses With Equipment Buybacks
San Diego-based Totem, a startup which buys and recycles used iPhones, BlackBerry, Android, tablet, and other devices from consumers and businesses, has recently launched a corporate division to buy back unwanted corporate equipment. The startup--headed by entrepreneur Nicholas Fiorentino--provides an online quote to purchase used equipment from both consumers and businesses. Interneer Reports Record Growth
Los Angeles-based Interneer, a developer of software-as-a-service for the business process management market, reports that it had "record growth" in 2011. The firm, which did not disclose actual financial details or any growth figures, said its customers now include include Host Hotels & Resorts, Inc., Silliker, Inc., Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc., and Akzo Nobel, among others. Interneer is headed by Romeo Elias. Interneer's software helps automate business processes.

Milyoni Finds Funding, Sets Up LA Office
A Bay area developer of social entertainment applications for Facebook, Milyoni, said Friday that it has scored $11M in a funding round, in part to open up an office in Los Angeles. The firm said the Series B funding was led by Oak Investment Partners, and also included ATA Ventures and Thomvest Ventures. Milyoni also said it will be opening up a New York office.
