Surf Air Launches Startup Airline Out Of Muckerlab
Tired of being herded like cattle on your regular trip between Los Angeles and Palo Alto? Los Angeles-based Surf Air just launched today, emerging out of the MuckerLab accelerator, saying that it is looking to turn the airline industry on its head with a subscription-based, all you can fly airline initially targeting commuters between Silicon Valley and Los Angeles. Hunger Games Pushes Surge In Sales For Fandango
The popularity of "The Hunger Games" has apparently helped out Los Angeles-based Fandango, which sells online and mobile tickets to movie-goers, as the firm said Thursday that it had the best selling, first quarter in the company's history. Fandango said that it saw a 127 percent year over year increase in ticket sales, and a 58 percent year over over year increase in monthly visitors, on the heels of the release of The Hunger Games. BlackLine In Alliance With KPMG
Los Angeles-based BlackLine Systems, the developer of financial close software headed by Therese Tucker, has signed a major deal with accounting and auditing firm KPMG, the company reported this morning. Marina Del Rey-based free text messaging app developer textPlus, said yesterday that it has launched its app on Android, in Canada, offering up free texting for users of mobile phones in that country. The firm, which is venture backed by Matrix Partners, GRP Partners, and Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, said its textPlus Free Text and Calls for Android app now will offer free texting plus calls in Canada, including offering phone calls without any long distance fees.

CODA Automotive Selects Charging Station Installer
Los Angeles-based CODA Automotive, the manufacturer of electric cars, said this morning that it has selected a preferred, EV charging station installation partner. CODA said that electric service and repair company Mr. Electric has been selected to offer consultation and installation services of electric vehicle charging stations for its customers. Los Angeles-based online coupon and deals site Savings.com reports this morning that it has just posted its 1 millionth deal, since it was founded five years ago. The online coupons and deals sites helps online shoppers find coupons and special deals for online retailers. Savings.com said those deals have saved online shoppers more than $500M.
