Rubicon Selected By Apple For iAd
Los Angeles-based Rubicon Project said Wednesday that it has been selected by Apple, to help power Apple's iAd mobile advertising product. Rubicon said the deal gives it access to over 250,000 mobile developers. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. It has been a busy week for Rubicon Project, which announced on Monday that it had acquired two companies--iSocket and Shiny Ads, in stock deals worth around a total of $30M. CARD.com Names Technology VP
Santa Monica-based CARD.com, which offers up branded prepaid cards linked to such brands as The Walking Dead, Star Trek, Sesame Street, and others, has named David Wolfe as the company's new Senior Vice President of Technology. CARD.com said that Wolfe has previously served as Chief Product and Technology Officer at Mylife.com, and also has served at Brightwire, BuyWithMe.com, Radio One, Reunion.com, aand Napster, where he was CTO. Teledyne Completes Bolt Technology Acquisition
Thousand Oaks-based Teledyne Technologies said Tuesday afternoon that it has complted its acquisition of Bolt Technology Corporation. The deal was worth approximately $171M, or $22.00 per share in cash. Bolt is a supplier of marine seismic energy sources and replacement parts for offshore energy exploration, and also makes underwater cables and connectors, along with developing underwater remotely operated vehicles (Mini ROVs).

Honk Launches On Demand Roadside Help Service, Raises $1.8M

Santa Monica-based Honk has launched a service for you, specifically to let you summon roadside help using your smartphone--without a membership. ventureLab Takes On Startup Incubation
Los Angeles-based ventureLab Growth Partners said Tuesday afternoon that it has launched a new "startup studio" to invest in and build early stage startups. The new startup studio is led by Mike Prasad. According to ventureLab, it will provide seed funding, along with product, marketing, and operational support to its companies. Carbonics Raises $5.5M For RF Materials
Marina Del Rey-based Carbonics, a developer of carbon nanomaterials aimed at improving the power consumption and performance of wireless semiconductors, has raised $5.5M in a funding round. The funding came from TAQNIA international. Carbonics says its technology is based on research conducted at UCLA and USC. Carbonics says it is working on incorporating its carbon nanomaterials into semiconductor radio frequency (RF) components. The company is led by Kos Galatsis.

Tagg Rolls Out New Pet Wearable
San Diego-based Tagg, a developer of wearables for pets, said Tuesday that it has launched a new device, which provides ambient temperature sensing for pets, in addition to providing reports on a pet's activity levels and location. Tagg's wearables for pets use GPS and cell phone networks to provide real time tracking of a pet. Tagg is led by Scott Neuberger.
