AllSay Looks To Combine News, Opinion, Action
Los Angeles-based AllSay, a new startup which is developing personalized news and opinion sharing apps, said today that it has launched a beta of its new app and service, which both helps provided personalized news items to users--as well as let them vote and express their opinions on local issues. Evite Hires New CTO
Los Angeles-based online invitation site Evite, which is owned by Liberty Interactive, has hired on former Amgen IT director Perry Evoniuk. According to Evite, it has named Evoniuk as the company's Chief Technology Officer, to oversee the company's technology strategy, software engineering and enterprise architecture. Evoniuk was previously Director of Information Systems for Amgen and also had served for 12 years at drugstore.com.

San Diego's Go Fund Me Helps Fund Ferguson Rebuilding
An analysis published today, shows that efforts on San Diego crowdfunding startup Go Fund Me are rivaling government help in rebuilding businesses damaged by unrest in Ferguson, Mo., after months of protests and riots in that city following the shooting of an unarmed black teenager last year. According to the WSJ, businesses in the area have raised $447,1998 on Go Fund Me, versus around $657,235 in aid from the Small Business Relief Program. Qualcomm Backs Cyanogen In $80M Round
San Diego-based Qualcomm is one of the investors in mobile operating system developer Cyanogen, as part of that company's new, $80M Series C funding. According to Cyanogen, Qualcomm joins Premji Invest, Twitter Ventures, Telefonica Ventures, Smartfren Telecom, Index Ventures, Access Industries, Rupert Murdoch, and Vivi Nevo, plus prior investors Benchmark, Andreessen Horowitz, Redpoint Ventures, and Tencent Holdings Ltd. SpaceX Releases Huge Trove Of Space Photos
Fans of SpaceX, the Los Angeles area space flight company led by Elon Musk, will have a field day with a giant trove of photographs from the company, which SpaceX made free to the public late Friday. SpaceX is offering up the use of hundreds of its photos via Creative Commons on the Flickr photo shraing site, which it said will allow user for free, noncommercial re-use with attribution. OpenX Debuts New Ad Quality Platform
Los Angeles-based online advertising technology developer OpenX said today that it has launched a "next generation" traffic quality monitoring platform, which it is using to help eliminate fraud in programmatic advertising. OpenX said its new platform detects and blocks suspicious activity in its network using big--data analysis, and also ties into human review. Coversant Acquired By Ubiquity
Sacramenta-based Coversant, a developer of secure, Internet-of-Things software which was led by Los Angeles angel investor Dale Okuno, has been acquired by Irvine-based Ubiquity. Financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Ubiquity, which its traded OTC, said that Okuno joins Ubiquity's board, and Coversant'a management team will also join the company. Ubiquity is a technology developing and licensing company.

Hulu Inks Deal For Empire
Los Angeles-based streaming television site Hulu said last week that it has gained the exclusive streaming video-on-demand rights to the show Empire, in a deal with Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Hulu said it will be airing current and future episodes of the drama series.

Microspin Ties With OneSpin On FPGA Verification
Aliso Viejo-based semiconductor developer Microsemi, and electronic design automation developer OneSpin Solutions said today that OneSpin's FPGA checking products now support Microsemi's Libery, System-on-a-Chip design flow. Microsemi's systems-on-a-chips (SoC) include FPGA blocks, which help hardware designers accelerate the implementation of their designs. The tie between Microsemi and OneSpin will help hardware designers with high reliability designs, and help reduce design flow bugs.
