HyperLoop One Shows Off Open Air Propulsion Testing
Los Angeles-based HyperLoop One showed off its first, open air testing efforts near Las Vegas this week. The company release a video showing the test, which sent a prototype of its vehicles across its test site and to a stop down a test track, in the open air. Eventually, HyperLoop One hopes to do the same--but inside a tube, and between cities. The company just raised $80M in funding to try to bring that vision to reality.

RLH Equity Sells Bluewolf Group To IBM
Los Angeles-based private equity investor Riordan, Lewis & Haden Equity Partners (RLH Equity), has sold one of its portfolio companies, BlueWolf Group, to IBM. Financial details of the acquisition were not announced. Bluewolf provided IT consulting and cloud computing for Salesforce.com, and had more than 500 employees spread across 12 offices in the US, Europe, and Australia. City of Los Angeles Ties Into High Speed, Internet Research Backbone
The City of Los Angeles--which has been building very close ties to the technology world since the election of Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti--said today that it has tied into the ultra-fast, 100Gbps research and education network run by CENIC, which will give researchers, educators, and students high speed access to the city's databases and computers. Blizzard Goes Big With Overwatch Beta
Irvine-based Blizzard Entertainment said its recent beta release of its new title, Overwatch: Origins Edition, has ended up being its largest, opening beta ever, with more than 9.7 million players around the world taking part. The title officially launches on May 24th on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Blizzard said its beta users have already racked up more than 4.9 billion minutes of play time on the game. DreamJobbing, The Clymb Partner On Dream Instagram Gig For Photographers
Los Angeles-based DreamJobbing.com, the startup founded by Lisa Hennessy, Alex Boylan and Burton Roberts, which offers up true "dream jobs" to its users, has tied with outdoors product site TheClymb on a set of dream jobs for Instagram photographers. According to the two, it will be offering up "dream jobs" and trips to Peru, Ecuador (Galapagos), Nepal, Antarctica, Tanzania, and Alaska, to six different Instagram photographers. Maxwell Technologies Names Semiconductor Vet As New Board Member
San Diego-based ultracapacitor and energy storage systems developer Maxwell Technologies said Thursday that it has named Steve Bilodeau to its board of directors. Bilodeau was previously CEO of Standard Microsystems Corporation (SMSC), where he held that position between 1999 and 2008, and also serves on the board of Cohu. He previously served on the boards of NuHorizons Electronic Corp., Conexant Systems Inc., and Gennum Corporation.
