Verve Buys Roximity, Raises $30M In Debt
Verve, a provider of location-based advertising technology which has operations in San Diego, said this week that it has acquired wireless beacon startup Roximity, and raised $30M in a debt funding. Financial details of the acquisition were not announced. The debt funding came from Silicon Valley Bank. According to Verve, a portion of the debt went towards the acquisition. Telogis Acquired By Verizon
Aliso Viejo-based Telogis, which develops connected vehicle software, has been acquired by Verizon, Verizon announced on Tuesday afternoon, saying it would become part of Verizon Telematics. Financial terms of the acquisition were not announced. Verizon said the buy would bring a "world-class" software platform and new distribution relationships to its telematics efforts. Mobile Roadie Names New CEO, CTO
Mobile Roadie, the mobile app creation and marketing software developer--which was recently acquired by Intellectsoft--said it has named Gino Padua as its new Chief Executive Officer, and Vova Soroka as its new Chief Technology Officer. Padua was most recently Chief Revenue Officer at AppsFreedom, and has been at Intellectsoft for the last three years. Livit Names Head Of Sports Streaming
Los Angeles-based Livit, which is a developer of a live, mobile, virtual reality streaming app and service, said today that it has named Marty Corwin as the company's Director of Global Sports. Corwin has previously served at such companies as Top Rank Boxing, ESPN, Viacom, DirecTV, FOX, FIFA, Paramount Stations Group, CBS Network, HBO, Showtime, Don King Productions and UFC. OpenX Expands To Culver City
Los Angeles-based advertising technology and ad network operator OpenX is expanding in the Los Angeles area, saying this morning that it has opened up a new, Culver City office. The office is the company's seventh office worldwide, and the third in California. Hyperloop One Inks Partnership With Moscow On Russian Transport System
Los Angeles-based Hyperloop One, one of the local companies which is looking to bring Elon Musk's idea of high speed transportation to reality, reported today that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the city of Moscow, to explore building high-capacity, passenger systems in the Russian city. Qualcomm Expands GNSS Support
San Diego-based Qualcomm said today that it is now broadly supporting the European Galileo Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) across its entire range of products. GNSS is the European equivalent of the GPS systems, offering up global satellite positioning services. Qualcomm says the GNSS support comes on top of existing support for the GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, QZSS, and SBAS satellite location services. Blueprint Bio Raises $7.5M
Blueprint Bio a developer of biomarker technology for the personalized medicine market, has raised $7.5M from Murrieta-based Forentis Partners. Blueprint Bio has offices in Murrieta, along with Philadelphia and Rochester, MN, at the University of Pennsylvania and the Mayo Clinic. According to Forentis Partners, the funding is the first funding out of its $50M, special purpose venture fund focused on biotechnology, its Forentis Fund. Blueprint Bio is led by Matthew Nunez.

Kite Pharma Opens New Facility In El Segundo
Santa Monica-based biopharmaceuticals developer Kite Pharma has opened up a new, 43,500 square foot manufacturing facility in El Segundo, the company said today, to manufacture its cancer immunotherapy products. OSI Systems Acquires American Science and Engineering
Hawthorne-base OSI Systems, which develops electronics systems for the homeland security, healthcare, and other markets, said this morning that it has acquired American Science and Engineering, Inc. (AS&E), in a deal worth approximately $187M. OSI said it would pay $37.00 per share in cash for A&E, which makes backscatter X-ray inspection equipment used for screening cargo, parcel, and personnel.
