Music Audience Exchange Looks To Grow Engineering In LA After Funding
Music Audience Exchange, a startup which develops a marketing platform aimed at the music industry, says it is planning on expanding its engineering team in Los Angeles, after a $6M funding round last month. The company announced $6M in funding from MATH Venture Partners and KDWC Ventures, along with G-Bar Ventures and Gregg Latterman, Founder and CEO of Aware Records in March. j2 Global Buys Five More Companies
Los Angeles-based j2 Global, which provides both a suite of Internet services and runs an extensive digital media and content publishing business, has made five more acquisitions, the company said today. The company said it completed five acquisition in the first quarter of 2017 across three of its business units. Ixia Shareholders Give Nod To Keysight Technologies Buy
Calabasas-based Ixia, the developer of network testing hardware and software, along with other products, said late Wednesday that its shareholders have voted to approve the acquisition of the company by Keysight Technologies. The two companies had announced the acquisition deal on January 30th. Ixia said that approximately 82.8 percent of its outstanding shares were voted in favor of the deal. The deal is worth $1.6 billion, or $19.6 per share in cash.

Qualcomm Ordered To Pay $814.9M Refund to BlackBerry
San Diego-based Qualcomm was ordered to pay $814.9 million, plus interest and attorney's fees, to BlackBerry, as part of an arbitration related to the company's royalties for certain past sales of subscriber units, Qualcomm said on Wednesday. The arbitration award came as a result of a contract dispute between the companies relating to a per-unit royalty cap program at Qualcomm. Qualcomm said it did not agree with the decision, but that the order is binding and not appealable.

Second Sight Retinal Prothesis Implanted In First Patient In Asia
Sylmar-based medical device maker Second Sight Medical Products, which develops implantable retinal prothesis designed to help provide some useful vision in blind patients, says it has implanted its first system in Asia. Second Sight Medical said the Argus II Retinal Prosthesis System was implanted in a patient at the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (CGMH), in Linkou, Taiwan.
