Cover Technologies Finds $1.6M For Algorithm Designed Buildings
Gardena, California-based Cover, which develops technology which uses algorithms and software to build custom, prefab buildings, including backyard studios, has raised $1.6M in a seed funding round. The funding was led by General Catalyst and Khosla Ventures, and also included Fifty Years, Hyperspeed Ventures, and angels. Perspectium Raises $8M
San Diego-based Perspectium Corporation, a developer of enterprise integration, replication and monitoring as a service tools for ServiceNow, has raised $8M in a Series A funding, according to the company. The funding was led by TVC Capital. As part of the funding, TVC's Steve Hamerslag joins the company's board. Zynga Funds Effort At USC To Support Diversity In Video Game Industry
Social games developer Zynga has funded a new effort to increase the diversity in the video game development industry, through a partnership with the University of Southern California, Zynga said on Tuesday. According to Zynga, it has provided a "substantial gift" to USC's School of Cinematic ARts' Interactive Media & Games Division, to support diversity, inclusive game production, and the creation of "innovative social mobile gameplay." SpaceX Test Fires Falcon Heavy
Hawthorne-based SpaceX has released a video of its first, static fire test of a Falcon Heavy rocket, which it conducted last week in McGregor, Texas. The firing is one of the steps along the way to launching its first Falcon Heavy rocket, a heavy lifting rocket which SpaceX has said will lift twice the payload the largest rocket now available--Delta IV Heavy--into orbit. The Falcon Heavy will be the largest, rocket to be created since the Saturn V moon rocket, which was last launched in 1973. (More info...)

NantHealth Names Chief Medical Officer
Culver City-based NantHealth announced this morning that it has named Sandeep (Bobby) Reddy, MD, as its new Chief Medical Officer. Dr. Reddy has been at NantHealth since December of 2016, when he joined as Senior Executive Director of Medical Affairs. He was previously Chief Medical Officer at Caris Life Sciences. Dassault Systemes Pilots New 3D Design Fellowship At UC Irvine
The Dassault Systemes U.S. Foundation, the nonprofit arm of aerospace giant Dassault Systemes, said that it is launching a new pilot program this summer at the University of California, Irvine's Samueli School of Engineering, which will teach community college students the skills behind 3-D design.
