Hulu Names Google Vet As Chief Marketing Officer
Santa Monica-based streaming television provider Hulu announced on Monday that it has appointed Kelly Campbell as the company's new Chief Marketing Officer. Campbell was most recently at Google, serving as Managing Director of Global Growth Marketing for Google Cloud, also also had previously worked at JPMorgan Chase and FleetBoston Financial Corporation. Airspace Technologies Links Into Alexa
Carlsbad-based Airspace Technologies a provider of technology enabled logistics services and related software, said it has integrated its service with Amazon Alexa. According to Airspace, the new integration allows users to track, trace, and review their shipments using voice commands on Alexa. Airspace said its tools provide real-time email and app tracking, in addition to voice integration with Alexa. The company's co-founders are CEO Nick Bulcao, and CTO Ryan Rusnak.

Nearmap Delivers New 3D Aerial Imagery Data
San Diego- and South Jordan, Utah-based Nearmap has recently rolled out a new, aerial imagery system aimed at the mapping, construction, engineering, and government industries, according to the company. Internet Brands Buys WebMD For $2.8 Billion
El Segundo-based Internet Brands, which is owned by private equity investor KKR, agreed this morning to acquire WebMD in a deal worth approximately $2.8 billion. According to WebMD, Internet Brands will pay $66.50 per share in cash for all of the outstanding shares of WebMD common stock. The deal is expected to close in Q4 of 2017. WebMD operates a popular online health information site. Internet Brands is run by CEO Bob Brisco. KKR acquired Internet Brands in 2014.

eFFECTOR Therapeutics Raises $38.6M
San Diego-based eFFECTOR Therapeutics, a developer of treatments for cancer, has raised $38.6M in a Series C funding round, the company announced this morning. Allegro Opthalmics Finds $10.7M In Funding
San Juan Capistrano-based Allegro Opthalmics, a developer of drug treaments for treating diabetic macular edema (DME) and vitreomacular traction (VMT), said today that it has raised $10.7M in an equity funding round. Source of the new funding injection was not announced. According to Allegro, the new funding goes to complete multiple Phase 2 clinical trials and prepare for Phase 3 studies.

MabVax Therapeutics On The Block, Seeks Buyer
San Diego-based drug development company MabVax Therapeutics announced this morning that its board has authorized the company to explore "strategic alternatives", and will engage an independent, financial advisory firm to assist in "exploring and evaluating strategic options with the goal of maximizing shareholder value." AutoMobility LA Dangles $200,000 In Prizes For Auto Startups
AutoMobility LA, the high tech-, connected-car focused event which is part of the LA Auto Show, said it is running a startup competition which will over up prizes worth over $200,000 at its 2017 Top Ten Automotive Startups Competition. The deadline for the competition is August 11th. The top prizes include $120,000 in credits for Microsoft Azure and an opportunity to attend the Extreme Tech Challenge (XTC) held on Sir Richard Branson's private estate, Necker Island.
