FairClaims Finds $1.8M For Online Dispute Resolution
Los Angeles-based FairClaims has raised $1.8M in a funding round, to go towards the startup's online dispute resolution services. According to the company, the funding came from Fika Ventures, Crosslink Capital and Greycroft. The funding came on top of an earlier, $285,000 in seed funding the company received from Brian Liu (co-founder of legalzoom), Mark Goldstein, and Mark Goines (NOLO, Intuit Turbotax). AT&T's DIRECTV NOW Tops 500,000 Subscribers
AT&T, which has been ramping up its efforts and presence in Los Angeles, both with technology and Hollywood, said this week that it has topped 500,000 subscribers on its over-the-top (OTT) streaming platform, DIRECTV NOW. TenOneTen Ventures Targets $50M In Second Venture Fund
TenOneTen Ventures, the Los Angeles venture capital firm founded by David Waxman and Gil Elbaz, is aiming to raise $50M in its second venture fund, according to a regulatory filing from the company filed this week. Global Eagle Entertainment Investment Deal Collapses
Los Angeles-based Global Eagle Entertainment, a developer of in-flight entertainment products and provider of broadband Internet services, has called off a $416M majority investment deal from Chinese company HNA Group, after the U.S. refused to approve the transaction. Guidance Software Acquired By OpenText For $240M
Pasadena-based forensics software maker Guidance Software has agreed to be acquired by OpenText, in a deal worth approximately $240M, Guidance said this morning. Guidance, which is best known for developing the EnCase forensic security software, said OpenText will pay $7.10 per share in cash for all of the company's outstanding shares. Guidance was advised by Morgan Stanley and Atlas Technology Group, along with Latham & Watkins, in the deal.

Elon Musk Shows Off Boring Company Car Elevator
If you're most anyone on Instagram, you might post a picture of puppies, a sunset, your dinner, or a selfie. For Elon Musk, the technology mogul behind SpaceX and Tesla Motors, you post a video of the car elevator you built in Hawthorne, for The Boring Company and it's efforts to whisk cars, people, and stuff around via a network of underground tunnels in Los Angeles. Musk showed off progress on the elevator in a post on Tuesday, part of the installation of a tunnel in the SpaceX parking lot.

EvoNexus Rolls Out New Tech Incubator Class
San Diego-based nonprofit EvoNexus has launched a new class of companies to its startup incubator, the group said on Tuesday, for both its San Diego and Irvine locations. Newegg Supports Children's Hunger Charity
Los Angeles-based online electronics retail Newegg said today that it has tied with non-profit charity No Kid Hungry, to support the group's efforts to help combat childhood hunger. According to Newegg, it will build awareness of No Kid Hungry's efforts within its base of customers, encouraging them to donate in increments of $1, $5, or $10, and match donations from its customers up to $75,000. Qualcomm, Nichicon In EV Charging Agreement
San Diego-based Qualcomm and Japanese electronics components maker Nichicon said on Tuesday that the two are in a new licensing agreement, which covers commercial wireless electric vehicle charging systems for plug-in-hybrid (PHEV) and electric vehicle (EV) systems. ViaSat Wins Deal With Northrop Grumman Australia
Carlsbad-based satellite broadband provider ViaSat has been selected by Northrop Grumman Australia, as part of a deal to create a new, satellite communications network for the Australian Defence Force (ADF), the company announced this morning.
