Aliso Viejo-based QLogic said this week that it has begun shipping new Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) adapters. Fibre Channel over Ethernet is a new standard for transmitting data storage traffic over standard Ethernet connections. QLogic claimed that it is the first to ship a FCoE adapter into general availability. The maker of storage networking hardware said that it has also bundled the adapters with a Ethernet switch from Cisco, along with launching an interoperability program around FCoE. QLogic's new series of adapters -- the QLogic 8000 Series -- supports up to 10 Gigabit Ethernet performance, and is available through the firm's authorized distributors.
