San Diego-based Qualcomm and Ericsson said today that the two mobile phone technology leaders are teaming together to run CDMA technical trials in South Africa. The companies will show Qualcomm's CDMA2000 and CDMA2000 1xEV-DO wireless services running in conjunction with existing GSM networks in the country. The two companies are promoting the use of dual-mode GSM and CDMA handsets to bring wider wireless adoption in the South African market. Qualcomm's CDMA2000 technology is already being deployed in the US, South Korea, Japan, and Brazil.
