San Diego-based Qualcomm (www.qualcomm.com) has tapped Atmel Corp. in a product and foundry deal, according to the Silicon Strategies newsletter. Atmel will reportedly make a RF transceiver line for Qualcomm, adding the chip design firm to the list of foundry partners. Qualcomm also uses IBM, Freescale Semiconductor, and TSMC for chip manufacturing.
