SmartDrive Enhances Driver Safety System

San Diego-based SmartDrive Systems, which develops driver monitoring and safety systems for the fleet driving market, said this week that it has enhanced its platform. According to SmartDrive, it has added several new features to the platform--including automatic adjustment of how much video the system captures, and detection of U-turns--which helps to provide better data on risky driving. The company said the enhancements help capture more video and data around such issues as following too close, excessive lane departure as result of drowsiness or distracted driving, and U-turns. SmartDrive's systems are being used by driving fleets to reduce accidents and help improve driving skills. SmartDrive's investors are Oak Investment Partners and New Enterprise Associates. The company says it now has more than 400 employees worldwide.
