Snapchat Sees Massive Image Leak, Blames Third Party Apps

Venice-based Snapchat is facing another big crisis Friday, as word spread that at least 100,000 compromising, Snapchat photos and videos have been leaked to online hacking sites. Snapchat--in a message to its Twitter followers--blamed the use of third party apps for sending and receiving snaps, which it said violate its terms of use policy. The company said that Snapchat's servers "were never breached and were not the source of these leaks." Snapchat has already dealt with this issue before, and has an agreement with the FTC over the ability of the service to keep photos taken with it out of the wrong hands; in that agreement, the FTC had cited the ability of third party apps to log into Snapchat--and save snaps indefinitely.
