StartEngine Used To Crowdfund Alt-Right Social Network
Los Angeles-based StartEngine is being used to help fund an alt-right, social network called GAB, started by Andrew Torba, an outspoken Trump supporter who was kicked out of Y-Combinator for harassing other YC founders, according to a report on Thursday. StartEngine's website says that the network--which has adopted a logo eerily reminiscent of "Pepe the Frog", which according to the Anti-Defamation League and others has been adopted as a symbol of hate--has raised more than $1M from over 1,425 investors. Gab recently posted on Twitter that it had raised over $1M, saying "F*** YOU Silicon Valley elitist trash". Editor's note: we edited the actual obscenity from the Tweet.
