textPlus Launches International Calling App

Marina Del Rey-based textPlus, the venture-backed developer of mobile texting and calling applications, said Wednesday that it has launched a brand new, international calling app called GlobePhone. According to the company--which is backed by Kleiner Perkins Caufield and Byers, Matrix Partners, Upfront Ventures and The Raine Group--the new mobile app offers up inexpensive international calling, specifically aimed at people in the US with family and friends outside the country, and for those traveling internationally. textPlus said the new app offers up international calling starting at $0.02 per minute, which the company says is 98 percent less than standard carrier rates. textPlus is led by serial entrepreneur Scott Lahman, who also previously had been at JAMDAT Mobile.
