U.S. To Require Drone Registration
The U.S. Department of Transportation has announced a move to require all, recreational drone users to register their drones with the government, after a rash of near close-calls and rampant drone proliferation with hobbyists. According to the USDOT, it has created a task force which will develop recommendations, to be put forth on November 20th, to increase accountability of users for their drone operations. The department said the rules will be put into action due to close calls with aircraft, incidents at major sporting events, interference with wildfire operations. FAA Administrator Michael Huerta said that, to counter what he called a "troubling trend", the registration will help ensure operators know that "there will be consequences" for unsafe operation of drones.
