Universal Electronics Sues Logitech

Cypress-based Universal Electronics, the developer of wireless control technology and remotes, said Friday that it has filed a patent infringement lawsuit against Logitech. Universal Electronics said the suit claims infringement of seventeen of its patents relating to remote control technology. Universal has sued Logitech Inc., Logitech International S.A., and Logitech Europe S.A. in the United States District Court, Central District of California. The patent infringement suit apparently came after failure of the two companies to come to an agreement on renewal of patent licensing; Universal said Logitech had licensed its patents between July 1, 2004 until June 30, 2010, but failed to come to a new agreement.
